This spring-loaded pressure valve prevents oxygen or water from flowing back into your CPAP or BiPAP machine when it's turned off. While the machine is operating, air flows normally through the system. When pressure stops, the valve seals and diverts any excess oxygen or water out through its vents — protecting your machine and preventing safety hazards.
Philips Respironics recommends using this pressure valve whenever you use supplemental oxygen or an external humidifier with their CPAP machines. Without the valve, oxygen can accumulate inside the machine when off (a fire hazard), and water from a humidifier can backflow into the device (causing damage).

How the pressure valve works
- CPAP running: The valve is open, allowing air to flow normally through the system.
- CPAP turned off: Pressure stops, the spring seals the valve, and any oxygen or water in the line is diverted out through the valve's vents.
