Finding the right portable oxygen concentrator for you

We are very thankful to the many oxygen users we have served and continue to support. We have been selling portable oxygen concentrators since they were invented and became available. We have learned a lot along the way and want to share our knowledge with you to help you find the POC that fits you and your needs.

Fast Facts: How to choose the right POC

  • Start with your doctor: Know your prescribed oxygen saturation target and pulmonary condition.
  • Match the machine to your needs: Oxygen output, available settings, and pulse vs. continuous flow.
  • Plan for battery life: Standard and extended batteries determine your time away from a power source.
  • Consider size, weight, and carrying style: Shoulder, backpack, or rolling — pick what fits your day.
  • Choose a proven brand: Manufacturer track record matters for service life and warranty.
  • Buy from a seller who stands behind it: Free exchanges in the first month at Main Clinic Supply.

Start with your doctor

First, it is very important that you have a good sense of your oxygen needs from your doctor. Do what you can to work with the doctor and their staff and learn as much as you can about your pulmonary condition. Stay in touch with your doctor so you can work together to manage your overall health, including your pulmonary condition.

You will want to have your doctor tell you what level of oxygen you should work to maintain in your blood. This is known as your "oxygen saturation" or "O2 sats." The best tool to monitor your oxygen saturation is a pulse oximeter.

Pulse oximeter included with every POC Main Clinic Supply provides a pulse oximeter at no charge when you buy one of our portable oxygen concentrators. No one should use a POC without one.

How to choose your POC

Once you understand your oxygen needs, follow these steps to find the right machine:

  • Match your pulmonary condition. Find a POC that fits the prescription and condition your doctor has explained.
  • Check oxygen output and settings. Look at the amount of oxygen the machine produces and the available pulse or continuous flow settings.
  • Battery life and battery sizes. Make sure the standard and extended batteries can give you the hours you need away from a power source.
  • Size, weight, and portability. Carrying or rolling — pick what fits your daily routine.
  • Manufacturer track record. Look at the brand's history in portable oxygen, build quality, and warranty support.
  • Buy from a company that stands behind the product. Choose a seller who cares whether the machine actually works for you.
Free exchanges in the first month

At Main Clinic Supply, if the POC you purchase doesn't meet your needs in the first 30 days, we'll exchange it at no charge. Talk to an Oxygen Specialist at 1-800-775-0942 if you have questions before you buy.

After you buy your POC

Start by reading the user's manual carefully. Then, sitting comfortably, fire up your new machine so you can both get used to each other.

We suggest watching a movie the first time you use your new POC. Have your pulse oximeter on hand to help you find the lowest setting of oxygen that keeps you oxygenated while you are relaxed and not exerting yourself.

Next, move around the house — perhaps doing your normal housekeeping and chores — while monitoring your oxygen saturation. Find the lowest setting that keeps you oxygenated while you are exerting yourself a bit.

Once you're ready, move on to exercise. Consider taking a walk or riding your bike. Use your pulse oximeter to find the lowest setting that keeps you oxygenated while exercising.

Go out and enjoy life again

Thousands of people have written to us thanking us for helping them regain their freedom. This is what awaits you once you find the right POC at the right setting — to truly live life to its fullest.
