ROVE 6 BATTERY OPTIONS:

*Based on oxygen flow setting of 2, a higher setting will use more battery power.

  • Small Battery - Lightweight 8-Cell Lithium Ion Battery (Up to 5 Hour Run-time)*
  • Large Battery - Double-Hour 16-Cell Lithium Ion Battery (Up to 9 Hour Run-Time)*

VIP FAA / AIRLINE NOTE:
The (FAA) Federal Aviation Administration requires oxygen users on board aircraft to carry 150% battery life to meet their oxygen needs while flying on all airlines. The flight hours must include not only time in the air but also layovers between legs of flights to your final destination airport.

For examples:
  • 6 hr non-stop flight will require 9 hrs of battery life......... (6 hrs X 150% = 9 hrs)
  • 8 hr one-stop-flight with a 2 hr layover requires 15 hrs of battery life......... (8 hrs + 2 hrs = 10 hrs X 150% = 15 hrs)

    LITHIUM-ION BATTERY:
Sometimes referred to as Li-ion battery or (LIB) is a member of a family of rechargeable battery types in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging. Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as one electrode material, compared to the metallic lithium used in a non-rechargeable lithium battery. The electrolyte, which allows for ionic movement, and the two electrodes are the constituent components of a lithium-ion battery cell.

    Flow Settings and Oxygen Output

The Inogen Rove 6 delivers oxygen on demand (pulse dose), releasing a precise bolus of oxygen at the start of each breath. It offers six settings, each labeled to correspond roughly to a continuous flow prescription level:

Setting Approx. Continuous Flow Equivalent Typical Use Situation
1 ~0.5 LPM Resting, low activity. Sleep use only under physician direction; see note.
2 ~1.0 LPM Resting, light activity
3 ~1.5 LPM Light activity, slow walking
4 ~2.0 LPM Moderate activity, grocery shopping
5 ~2.5 LPM Active walking, travel
6 ~3.0 LPM Higher exertion, per physician guidance

← Scroll to see full table →

Always follow your physician's prescription. The flow setting equivalents above are guidelines provided by Inogen, not clinical prescriptions. Your oxygen delivery needs vary based on your breathing rate, activity level, altitude, and lung function. Never adjust your prescribed setting without first consulting your physician or respiratory therapist.

The Rove 6 is a pulse dose device only. It does not offer continuous flow delivery. If your prescription requires continuous flow oxygen, our specialists can help you identify portable and home units that meet that requirement. Call 507-322-0247 to speak with someone today.

    Battery Life and Runtime

The Rove 6 is available with two battery sizes. Both batteries are interchangeable and hot-swappable, meaning you can swap to a fresh battery without interrupting oxygen delivery.

Battery Inogen Specification MCS Real-World Testing Best For
8-Cell (Standard) Up to 6 hours Up to 5 hours Day trips, errands, short flights
16-Cell (Extended) Up to 12 hrs 45 min (setting 1) Up to 9 hours Transatlantic flights, full travel days, overnight use for some patients

Specifications verified against Inogen manufacturer documentation, March 2026.

A Note on Battery Life: Manufacturer Specs vs. Real-World Use Manufacturer runtimes are measured under controlled lab conditions at the most favorable settings. For the Rove 6, Inogen rates the 8-cell battery at up to 6 hours at setting 2, and the 16-cell battery at up to 12 hours 45 minutes at setting 1. MCS real-world testing runs both batteries at setting 2: up to 5 hours on the 8-cell, and up to 9 hours on the 16-cell. At higher settings, in warm weather, or as the battery ages, expect shorter runtimes. We share our tested figures because patients plan their days around their oxygen, and we believe accurate expectations matter more than marketing numbers. For full days away from an outlet, carry a spare 8-cell battery.

    Sound Level and Quiet Operation

The Inogen Rove 6 operates at 39 dBA at Setting 2. For reference, a quiet library measures approximately 40 dBA. Most users describe the sound as a gentle hum that is easy to tune out in everyday environments. At higher settings the device is slightly louder, though still among the quietest portable concentrators in its class.

If noise is a primary concern (for example, if you use supplemental oxygen during sleep or in quiet office environments), speak with our specialists about your specific situation. Not all pulse dose concentrators are appropriate for sleep; oxygen delivery effectiveness during sleep depends on your breathing pattern and your physician's guidance.

Airline Travel with the Inogen Rove 6

The Inogen Rove 6 meets FAA acceptance criteria for in-flight use on commercial aircraft. This means airlines are permitted to allow the device on board, provided you follow their notification procedures.

    Before You Fly: Three Steps
    • Notify your airline at least 48 hours before departure (carrier policy; confirm with your airline).
    • Carry your physician's prescription and a signed Medical Information Form (MEDIF) if required by the airline.
    • Bring enough battery power for 150% of your scheduled flight time, including layovers. This is a common carrier requirement; confirm the specific rule with your airline before you fly.
FAA Language Note: The FAA does not independently "approve" portable oxygen concentrators. The correct phrase is that the Rove 6 "meets FAA acceptance criteria." Our team can provide documentation to help you prepare for travel.

For detailed airline travel planning, see our guide: Flying with a Portable Oxygen Concentrator: What Every Traveler Needs to Know.

    Expected Service Life and Warranty

According to Inogen's official press release dated August 7, 2023, the Inogen Rove 6 has a best-in-class expected service life of 8 years. This update applies to all Rove 6 devices sold worldwide.

Main Clinic Supply also offers a Lifetime Warranty bundle that extends coverage beyond the standard 8-year period. The bundle includes the device, a large extended battery, and additional accessories, all backed by our service center's factory-certified technicians. Learn more about the Lifetime Warranty bundle.

Service Matters: Main Clinic Supply operates an independent authorized service center in Rochester, Minnesota, staffed by factory-certified Inogen technicians. Mark Luther, our CTO, personally oversees the technical quality of every repair. If your Rove 6 ever needs service, you are covered.

Using a Pulse Oximeter to Find Your Setting

The most reliable way to confirm that your Rove 6 is delivering enough oxygen at a given setting is to monitor your blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) with a pulse oximeter. A pulse oximeter is a small clip-on device that slides onto your fingertip and gives you a real-time reading in seconds.

Here is how to use one to fine-tune your setting:

    • Check your SpO2 while resting at your current flow setting. Most clinical guidelines target SpO2 at or above 90-92% for supplemental oxygen users. Your physician will set your specific target based on your diagnosis and baseline; confirm it with your care team before adjusting any settings.
    • Check again during light activity (walking across the room, climbing stairs). Your SpO2 may drop during movement, which may indicate a need to increase your setting temporarily.
    • If your SpO2 stays consistently above your target at a lower setting, you may be able to reduce the setting and extend your battery life. Confirm any changes with your physician first.
Free Pulse Oximeter: Main Clinic Supply provides a pulse oximeter at no additional charge with every Rove 6 purchase. If you do not have one, let us know when you place your order.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Inogen Rove 6 weigh?

The Inogen Rove 6 weighs 4.8 lbs (2.18 kg) with the standard 8-cell battery. This makes it one of the lightest pulse dose portable oxygen concentrators currently available. The 16-cell extended battery adds approximately 1 lb.

How long does the Inogen Rove 6 battery last?

Per Inogen specifications: the 8-cell battery provides up to 6 hours at setting 2; the 16-cell battery provides up to 12 hours 45 minutes at setting 1. Based on MCS real-world testing: up to 5 hours (8-cell) at setting 2 and up to 9 hours (16-cell) at setting 2. Actual runtime varies based on your flow setting, breathing rate, ambient temperature, and battery age. Carrying a spare 8-cell battery is a practical way to extend your time away from an outlet.

Notify your airline at least 48 hours before departure, carry your physician's prescription, and bring enough battery power for 150% of your total scheduled flight time including layovers (a common carrier requirement; confirm with your airline).

Does the Rove 6 provide continuous flow oxygen?

No. The Inogen Rove 6 is a pulse dose (demand dose) device only. It delivers oxygen at the start of each breath rather than continuously. If your prescription requires continuous flow oxygen, call us at 507-322-0247 and we will help you find the right device for your needs.

What oxygen flow settings does the Rove 6 have?

The Inogen Rove 6 offers six pulse dose flow settings (1 through 6). Oxygen concentration is 90% plus or minus 3% at all settings. Setting 6 delivers the highest output and is typically used during higher-exertion activities. Always use the setting prescribed by your physician and verify effectiveness with a pulse oximeter.
