The O2 Concepts OxLife Liberty2 solves a problem that most portable oxygen concentrators cannot: how do you get continuous flow oxygen in a device light enough to wear over your shoulder all day? Most portable concentrators that offer continuous flow require a rolling cart because the hardware required to produce a steady oxygen stream adds significant weight. The Liberty2 delivers continuous flow up to 2 LPM at just over 7 pounds with the battery, worn in its included carry bag.

Beyond the weight achievement, the Liberty2 offers the widest pulse dose range of any wearable portable concentrator currently available. Its 10 pulse dose settings, with bolus volumes from 8 to 80 mL, cover a broader range of prescriptions than any comparable device in its weight class. For patients who need both the flexibility of pulse dose during activity and continuous flow at rest or during sleep, the Liberty2 handles both in one compact unit.

At Main Clinic Supply, we have worked with O2 Concepts products for years. The Liberty2 is the device we recommend when a patient needs continuous flow capability but also needs to be hands-free and mobile. It is built in the USA, backed by a 3-year warranty, and includes DNA Technology for remote monitoring by caregivers and healthcare providers.

    Overview of the OxLife Liberty2

O2 Concepts is a U.S.-based manufacturer that focuses exclusively on oxygen therapy devices. The OxLife Liberty2 is their second-generation Liberty-line portable concentrator, released in 2022. It builds on the original Liberty by extending continuous flow from 1.5 LPM to 2.0 LPM and expanding pulse dose coverage from nine settings to ten, while maintaining the compact wearable form factor that defines the Liberty line.

The defining engineering achievement of the Liberty2 is delivering 2.0 LPM continuous flow in a 6.35-pound device worn like a shoulder bag. Traditional portable concentrators that achieve this flow rate require a cart because the molecular sieve beds and compressor needed for high-output continuous flow production are heavy. The Liberty2 achieves this through O2 Concepts' patented Energy Smart Technology, which optimizes compressor operation for maximum efficiency, and a compact dimensional footprint of under 10 inches in any direction.

The Liberty2 is designed for 24/7 use on AC or DC power. It functions as a home unit when plugged in and a travel unit when running on battery or car power. For patients prescribed up to 2 LPM continuous flow who do not want a rolling cart, it is currently the only wearable option that fills that prescription.

Liberty vs. Liberty2: Which Does MCS Sell? This page covers the Liberty2 (current model, continuous flow up to 2.0 LPM, 10 pulse settings, 6.35 lbs). The original Liberty delivers continuous flow up to 1.5 LPM with nine pulse settings. If your prescription requires up to 1.5 LPM continuous flow and you are looking at the original Liberty model, contact our specialists at 507-322-0247 to confirm current availability and which model is in stock.

    Oxygen Delivery Options

The OxLife Liberty2 offers two oxygen delivery modes. Your physician's prescription will specify which mode you need and at what setting. Never adjust your flow setting above your prescription without medical guidance.

Continuous Flow: 0.5 to 2.0 LPM in Seven Settings

Continuous flow delivers oxygen at a steady, uninterrupted rate regardless of your breathing pattern. The Liberty2 offers seven continuous flow settings in 0.25 LPM increments: 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and 2.0 LPM. The 0.25 LPM spacing is more precise than many portable concentrators that only offer 0.5 LPM increments. This finer resolution allows physicians to write more targeted prescriptions, particularly for patients whose oxygen needs are between whole-number flow rates.

Continuous flow is most commonly prescribed for nighttime use, for patients whose oxygen levels drop during sleep, and for patients who use CPAP or BiPAP equipment. The Liberty2 covers prescriptions up to 2.0 LPM in continuous mode. Patients prescribed above 2.0 LPM continuous flow will need a higher-capacity device such as the OxLife Independence (3.0 LPM).

Pulse Dose: Settings 1 Through 10

Pulse dose settings on the Liberty2 run from 1 through 10 with bolus sizes of 8 mL at setting 1 up to 80 mL at setting 10 (measured at 20 breaths per minute). The 10-setting range is the broadest available in any wearable portable concentrator. Most lightweight wearable units top out at settings four or five. Having settings up to 10 means the Liberty2 can serve patients with higher pulse dose requirements who previously had no option other than a heavier cart-based device.

Always Use Your Prescribed Setting Never increase your oxygen flow setting above what your physician has prescribed without first speaking with your doctor. Too little oxygen delivery can put your health at risk, but so can too much. If you believe your prescription needs adjustment, contact your prescribing physician before changing any device setting.

    Energy Smart Technology

Energy Smart Technology is O2 Concepts' patented approach to compressor control. It is the engineering reason the Liberty2 can deliver 2.0 LPM continuous flow and 10 pulse dose settings in a device that weighs under 7 pounds with the battery.

    The Core Problem It Solves

Producing oxygen requires a compressor to push room air through molecular sieve beds that filter out nitrogen and concentrate the oxygen. Running a compressor at a constant high rate uses a lot of power, which drains batteries quickly and generates heat. Energy Smart Technology modulates the compressor in real time based on the patient's actual breathing demand. When the device detects a reduced breathing rate or a lower flow requirement, the compressor works less. The result is less wasted energy and a longer battery life without reducing the oxygen delivered when it is needed.

What It Means for Daily Use

For patients, Energy Smart Technology means the Liberty2 achieves up to 4.5 hours of battery life in a device small enough to carry over one shoulder. That covers most outings, doctor's appointments, shopping trips, and half-day travel without needing to find a power outlet or carry a second battery. For patients who previously had to choose between a light device with limited flow settings and a capable device that required a cart, the Liberty2 and its Energy Smart Technology close that gap.

    DNA Technology: Remote Monitoring

DNA Technology stands for Dynamic Network Analysis. It is O2 Concepts' proprietary platform for remote monitoring of the OxLife Liberty2. The system operates through the Verizon cellular network, which means it functions anywhere Verizon cell coverage reaches, without requiring the patient to connect to a home Wi-Fi network.

    What DNA Technology Monitors

    • Device operational status and oxygen output levels
    • Usage patterns, including hours used and average flow settings
    • Alert conditions such as low oxygen purity, low battery, or device errors
    • Software update status and maintenance reminders
    • GPS location (device location tracking for loss or theft prevention)

Who Benefits Most from DNA Technology

DNA Technology adds meaningful value in three situations. First, for adult children or remote caregivers who want to verify that an elderly parent's device is running correctly without a daily phone call. Second, for home health agencies managing multiple patients who need usage data without in-person visits. Third, for patients who want the reassurance that a device problem will generate an alert rather than go unnoticed.

The GPS tracking feature also provides a practical benefit for travel. If the Liberty2 is lost or left behind in a hotel, the GPS record can help locate it.

DNA Technology Is Optional, Not Required: The Liberty2 operates normally whether or not you connect it to the DNA monitoring platform. If you prefer not to have your device data monitored remotely, the oxygen delivery functions are entirely unaffected. Discuss the DNA monitoring option with your home health provider or O2 Concepts if you want to learn more about activating the service.

    Battery and Power Options

The OxLife Liberty2 runs on three power sources and can charge its battery while delivering oxygen on any power source. You are never forced to choose between charging and using the device.

    Rechargeable Battery

The Liberty2 ships with one rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 4.5 hours of run time depending on the selected setting. Battery life is longest at lower pulse dose settings and shortest at continuous flow 2.0 LPM. The battery recharges in under 2.5 hours, which means a midday charge during lunch or a rest period can add hours of run time to your afternoon and evening.

Additional batteries are available for purchase separately. Carrying a second charged battery effectively doubles your time away from an outlet, which is useful for air travel, full-day outings, or situations where DC car power is not available.

AC Power (Home, Hotel, and Office Use)

The Liberty2 AC power supply operates on 100 to 240V at 50 or 60 Hz. This covers standard U.S. outlets (110–120V) and international outlets (220–240V) without a voltage converter. You need only a plug adapter for the outlet shape when traveling internationally. Maximum AC power consumption is 150W, which is within the operating limits of most standard outlets worldwide.

DC Power (Car, RV, and Boat Use)

The included DC power supply connects to any standard 12V vehicle power outlet (the type sometimes called a cigarette lighter port). It operates at 11.5 to 15V, 10A with a maximum draw of 120W. A key advantage of the Liberty2 on DC power: unlike some portable concentrators that limit DC use to lower flow settings, the Liberty2 runs on DC power at all settings, including the highest continuous flow and pulse dose settings. This means you can use the full capability of the device in any vehicle with a standard 12V outlet.

Planning Battery Duration for Air Travel: FAA regulations require that your batteries last at least 150% of your total door-to-door travel time, including all layovers and delays. If your travel day runs 6 hours from home to hotel, you need at least 9 hours of battery capacity. At 4.5 hours per battery on pulse dose setting 2, two fully charged batteries cover that window. Bring the AC power supply and charge during any lengthy layovers when outlets are available at the gate.

Who Is the OxLife Liberty2 Right For?

The Liberty2 fills a specific gap in the portable oxygen concentrator market. It is the device for patients who need continuous flow oxygen but refuse to give up mobility. If rolling a cart is not an option for your lifestyle, the Liberty2 is worth a very close look.

The OxLife Liberty2 Is a Strong Match If You:

    • Need continuous flow oxygen up to 2.0 LPM for any part of your day, including sleep, rest, or activity
    • Want a wearable device that keeps your hands completely free
    • Use or plan to use a CPAP or BiPAP machine and need oxygen compatible with it
    • Need pulse dose settings above five or six, which most lightweight wearable units do not offer
    • Travel frequently and need a device that fits in a carry-on bag or under an airline seat without a cart
    • Want a caregiver or physician to be able to monitor the device remotely
    • Want the most prescription-versatile wearable POC available

You May Want to Consider a Different Device If You:

    • Need continuous flow above 2.0 LPM, which requires the OxLife Independence (3.0 LPM) or a stationary concentrator
    • Only need pulse dose settings 1 through 4, in which case a lighter pulse-dose-only unit like the Inogen Rove 4 (2.8 lbs) may be a better fit
    • Need more than 4.5 hours of battery run time away from any power source and do not want to carry a second battery

    Flying with the OxLife Liberty2

The OxLife Liberty2 meets FAA acceptance criteria for use aboard commercial aircraft. It is on the FAA's list of accepted portable oxygen concentrators, which means U.S. airlines are required to permit passengers to use it in-flight. Its compact dimensions (9.9 x 9.9 x 3.8 in.) fit under most airline seats without a cart.

Steps for Air Travel with the Liberty2

    1. Notify your airline at least 48 hours before departure. Most airlines require a call to their special services or medical assistance department. They will confirm requirements and note the device on your reservation.
    2. Obtain a letter from your prescribing physician stating your oxygen prescription, that you require supplemental oxygen during flight, and identifying the OxLife Liberty2 as your device.
    3. Bring sufficient battery power to cover at least 150% of your total travel time, including layovers. With one standard battery providing up to 4.5 hours, plan accordingly for longer travel days.
    4. Bring the FAA acceptance documentation included in your Liberty2 package, or download the current O2 Concepts FAA letter from the O2 Concepts website.
    5. Arrive at the airport with extra time. TSA screening of medical devices can take additional time at the security checkpoint.
Carry-On Placement: The Liberty2 is designed to be worn as a carry-on bag using the included shoulder strap and carry bag. Most passengers keep it on their lap or under the seat in front of them during flight. It does not count as a carry-on item for most U.S. airlines when documented as a medical device, but policies vary. Confirm your specific airline's policy on medical device carry-on counting before you travel.
International Flights: FAA acceptance rules apply to U.S.-carrier flights. International airlines have their own policies. Most major international carriers accept FAA-listed devices, but policies vary by airline and destination. Contact your airline directly and well in advance of travel.

Does Medicare Cover the OxLife Liberty2?

Medicare Part B covers home oxygen equipment when a physician documents medical necessity through qualifying blood oxygen saturation test results. However, Medicare typically covers the rental of stationary home oxygen equipment, not the outright purchase of a portable concentrator. Many patients use a Medicare-covered stationary concentrator at home and purchase the Liberty2 out of pocket for travel and daytime use.

Coverage is highly dependent on your specific diagnosis, your physician's documentation, and your individual Medicare plan. Our specialists work with patients navigating Medicare oxygen coverage regularly. We can help you understand what questions to ask your plan administrator before you purchase.

    Routine Maintenance

The OxLife Liberty2 requires minimal routine maintenance. O2 Concepts designed it for everyday portability, which means the maintenance tasks are straightforward and do not require technical expertise.

    Particle Filter

The Liberty2 draws room air through a particle filter before concentrating the oxygen. Inspect the filter weekly in dusty or smoky environments. Under typical home conditions, monthly inspection is adequate. To clean it, remove the filter, rinse gently under warm water, allow it to air dry completely, and reinstall it. Never put a damp filter back into the device. A restricted filter makes the compressor work harder, reducing performance and shortening the life of internal components.

    Exterior Cleaning

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth and mild soap as needed. Do not spray liquid directly onto the device. Keep the carry bag clean; a soiled carry bag can transfer debris to the air intake area over time.

Keep Away from Smoke at All Times Exposure to cigarette, cigar, or e-cigarette smoke is specifically listed in the O2 Concepts warranty as a cause that voids coverage. Beyond the warranty implications, smoke particles can damage the molecular sieve beds and shorten the operational life of the device. Never operate the Liberty2 in a room where smoking is occurring.

    Nasal Cannula Replacement

Replace your nasal cannula at least every two weeks under regular use. Skin oils and bacteria accumulate in the cannula tubing. A clean cannula reduces infection risk and ensures unobstructed oxygen flow from the device to your airway.

    Battery Care

The Liberty2 uses a lithium-ion battery. Do not leave a fully discharged battery sitting unused for extended periods, as deep discharge degrades lithium-ion cell capacity over time. If you will not be using the device for more than two weeks, store the battery at approximately 50% charge in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

    Professional Service

O2 Concepts recommends periodic professional service to verify oxygen purity output and inspect internal components, particularly the sieve tubes. Sieve tube degradation is a normal wear item over years of use and is covered under the 1-year sieve tube warranty. Contact Main Clinic Supply at 507-322-0247 to schedule a service inspection.

For patients prescribed up to 2.0 LPM continuous flow who do not need a rolling cart, it is currently the only wearable option that covers that prescription.

    What is Energy Smart Technology?

Energy Smart Technology is O2 Concepts' patented compressor control system that optimizes oxygen output per unit of battery power. It allows the Liberty2 to deliver 2.0 LPM continuous flow and 10 pulse dose settings in a device under 7 pounds, achieving up to 4.5 hours of battery life by modulating compressor output based on actual breathing demand.

    What is DNA Technology?

DNA Technology stands for Dynamic Network Analysis. It is O2 Concepts' remote monitoring platform that allows healthcare providers and caregivers to track device status, receive alerts, and review usage data without an in-person visit. The system runs via the Verizon cellular network and includes GPS location tracking. It operates in the background without requiring action from the patient.

Does the OxLife Liberty2 work with a CPAP or BiPAP machine?

Yes. The OxLife Liberty2 is the only wearable continuous flow portable oxygen concentrator that is compatible with CPAP devices. Patients who need both supplemental oxygen and sleep apnea treatment can use the Liberty2 with their CPAP equipment in continuous flow mode. Always confirm specific compatibility with your equipment and prescribing physician before connecting the devices.

What warranty does the OxLife Liberty2 come with?

The Liberty2 unit carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty from the original shipment date. Batteries, the AC power supply, the DC power supply, the accessory bag, and sieve tubes each carry a 1-year warranty. Optional accessories carry a 90-day warranty. The warranty is non-transferable and requires the original purchase receipt. Source: O2 Concepts warranty document 800-1092 Rev C, March 2024.

What is included with the OxLife Liberty2?

The standard package includes the Liberty2 unit, one rechargeable battery, AC power supply, DC power supply (car adapter), multifunction carry bag with shoulder strap, user manual, and FAA documentation. A nasal cannula is not included and must be obtained separately before use.

Can I use the OxLife Liberty2 internationally?

Yes. The AC power supply operates on 100 to 240V, which covers North American and international outlets without a voltage converter. You need only a plug adapter for the outlet shape. DC power operates at 11.5 to 15V, compatible with standard 12V vehicle outlets worldwide.

What is the difference between the OxLife Liberty and the OxLife Liberty2?

The original OxLife Liberty delivers continuous flow up to 1.5 LPM with pulse dose settings from 0.5 to 9. The Liberty2 is the updated model and delivers continuous flow up to 2.0 LPM with pulse dose settings 1 through 10. The Liberty2 is the current product.
